… the author
who are you?
It should suffice to say, that I am from planet earth, a human, and a scientist by training (with a background in natural sciences).
where are you from?
Due to my work, I have lived in many (mostly European) countries, and I currently call Spain my home.
Unfortunately, we live in times when some people seem to think that they can insult you, or even outright threaten your life, simply because you dared to utter an opinion that did not conform with their own. I will therefore not provide any more personal details here, in order to protect not only myself but also my family from trolls and other wildlife. If you disagree with me, simply do as Oscar Wilde:
“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an ass of yourself.”
― Oscar Wilde
why on earth are you writing a blog?
There are many troubling developments, which currently seem to accelerate our seemingly inevitable path to self-destruction: environmental pollution and climate change, overpopulation, the rise of populist/nationalist/racist – or simply dumb – governments all over, to name but a few. Reading or watching the news often leaves you with this depressed or even desperate feeling about the escalating stupidity and levels of conflict around the world, so I thought I’d put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), mainly for my own benefit, to provide me with some desperately needed catharsis.
Although I may sometimes tend to take a somewhat nihilistic approach to it all (i.e., we’re all gonna die sometime and the planet will be engulfed by the sun in a couple billion years anyway, so hey … ), I still think that people need to take responsibility, and not simply stand by while the world goes to the dogs. So here you have it, my two cents, for whatever they are worth!

my2cents is supposed to provide an evidence-based analysis and commentary of politics, policy, and current affairs. Topics are selected purely based on my personal preferences, interests, and bias, but I am always open to suggestions.
